Automobile tax refunded. Section 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, That the sum of twenty-eight thousand and forty dollars ($28,040.00), or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is hereby appropriated out of any money in the State treasury not otherwise appropriated for the purpose of refunding to automobile owners the amount of registration fees paid into the State treasury under and by virtue of the provisions of chapter 108, laws of 1912, which has been declared unconstitutional by the supreme court. Chapter 120. House Bill No. 881 An ACT to levy a privilege tax on motor vehicles and motorcycles for using the public roads and to provide for the registration of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
Section 1. Defining the term “motor cycle.” “Motor cycle” shall meana motor vehicle having but two wheels in contact with the ground. “Motor vehicles” when used in this act shall include all vehicles propelled by any power other than muscular except road rollers, street sprinklers, fire engines, and fire department apparatus, police wagons, ambulances, and such vehicles as run only upon rails or tracks.
Annual privilege tax on motor vehicles. Section 2. There is hereby levied the following annual privilege taxes for the privilege of using the public roads, as follows: On each motor vehicle propelled by electricity, four dollars and eighty cents. On each commercial motor vehicle, with a carrying capacity of forty-four hundred pounds or less, eight dollars and forty cents; with a carrying capacity of more than forty-four hundred pounds, sixteen dollars and eighty cents. On each motor cycle, two dollars and forty cents. On any other motor vehicle, thirty six cents per horse power.
